ICT TO BECOME PRIME ENABLER IN TEACHING AND LEARNING

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the Information Communication and Technology in Education Policy will make the information communication technology (ICT) as the prime enabler in the teaching and learning process.

Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister, said the policy would enhance the quality of education and churn out a knowledgeable generation who could contribute towards the country''s development.

"The policy, which is a continuation of the Smart School initiative previously, emphasizes on the use of technology as the tool to promote creativity, learning through cooperation, critical thinking and problem solving.

"The policy will merge and coordinate all existing ICT initiatives such as the SchoolNet, Computer Laboratory, EduWebTV, Access Centre and whatever ICT initiatives that will be implemented in future with the aim of raising the performance of students," he said when launching the policy, here today.

Also present were the Director-General of Education, Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom and Multimedia Development Corporation (MDEC) chief executive officer Datuk Badlisham Ghazali.

Muhyiddin said the policy would take the practices of the developed nations as the benchmark to ensure that all ICT components in education in the country could achieve international standards.

He said by using the policy as a source of reference and guidance, the implementation of all ICT programmes in the ministry would move towards a common goal, which was to raise student performance and ensure that every student had access to quality education.

"With the introduction of the policy, any ICT initiative under the ministry would no longer be enforced separately from other initiatives, thus raising the efficiency of resource management and economy," he said.

He said the policy had four main principles, namely continuous human capital development, the use of suitable technology to integrate the existing ICT initiatives in education, the teaching and learning process, and the management of education using ICT.

jd... anda mahir dlm ict? ict apa? words? photoshop? acdsee? facebook? email? blog? atau setakat games? sbg guru, kita mesti cuba memahirkan diri dgn 'perkara2' atau bidang2 yg ada berkaitan dgn kerjaya kita sbg guru... sekrg boleh dikatakan hampir semua guru memiliki komputer... sama ada desktop, laptop, notebook atau netbook... sdh berapa lama anda memiliki komputer? bgmana dgn semua perisian di dlmnya terutama dlm microsoft office spt words, powerpoint, access dsb...? anda sdh mahir? atau masih 'merangkak'? rasa2 sdh cukupkah pengetahuan ict yg ada skrg ini?

bidang pendidikan berkembang dgn pantasnya skrg ini... dan ia berkembang seiring dgn ict... mahu atau tdk, kita sebenarnya perlu 'memajukan' diri juga dm ict... lihat sj semua aktiviti2 atau komunikasi antara sesama kita atau dgn jabatan2 kerajaan, semuanya melalui ict... kursus2 juga menekankan penggunaan ict... segala2 ict... spt yg disebut tadi, kita haruslah meingkatkan kemahiran dlm ict terutama yg boleh membantu kita dlm kerjaya kita... spt penyediaan kertas2 soalan, pemprosesan gambar2, pembentangan, pnp dm kelas, dsb... perkara ini jelas disebut dlm petikan ucapan Menteri Pelajaran di atas... malah, dlm perkhidmatan kita jga spt memohon time-based, dg41 dsb juga memerlukan pengetahuan dlm ict...

mahu atau tdk, kita mesti...! kegagalan mengejar perkembangan ict terutamanya yg berkaitan dgn kerjaya kita akan menyebabkan kita jauh tertinggal di belakang... bukti? boleh dilihat dlm kehidupan harian kita... jd... tambahlah kemahiran anda dlm ict...
